Below is a photo from 1896 showing Arthur at work in the Franz-Josef Burger-Spital in Hermannstadt (Sibiu).

With reference to his publication 'From Transylvania To Spitzbergen' which is kept in the museum in Sibiu. This is about Arthur's trip to Norway in the summer of 1896. Thirty international scientists from thirty countries were sent to explore the region, below is a picture of them on the 'Erling Jarl' boat. The caption reads 'The travel companions on the 'Erling Jarl'. Arthur is in the front to the right with the white cap and beard. A picture of the boat can be found here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DS_Erling_Jarl_1895.jpg

On this trip they met the arctic balloonist Salomon Andrée and his companions who were preparing for their balloon flight over the North Pole the following year. They were also seeking news of Fridtjof Nansen who had attempted to go as far north as possible (and succeeded) but his whereabouts were not know until sometime later in 1896. The exploits of these two explorers was initially written about by Georg Wegener in the book 'Zum Ewigen Eise' which is still available.

Arthur brought various articles home from his Norway adventure including shells, skeletons and molluscs. Some shells had not been seen before in Romania, they were given the name ' Neptunea Sachsenheimi' and are also in the museum in Sibiu.
